It's a great State park! The dock included water and electricity and we could use shower and laundry facilities too. It was Corp's first time backing into a slip. He did a great job!
John Pennekamp State Park is known for its snorkeling sites. Since there were no snorkeling tours today because of choppy and unclear waters, we decided to snorkel off the beach in the park. We saw a variety of small and large fish and a dozen or so small jelly fish. They were about the size of a quarter. I'm not sure they had stingers. We kept our distance from them. We also saw the remnants of a 1715 Spanish ship. The anchor was huge....I estimate about 25 feet in length. There was also a really large chest.
We also took the dinghy out and explored the mangrove swamps.
We also needed a snorkeling flag and groceries so we walked about 2 miles to a Publix and Kmart. On the way back we discovered a marine surplus store and Corp was able to find a dinghy lock, swimming noodles, and on person snorkeling marker for a super cheap price. He was happy with his finds!
Tomorrow we travel 20 miles to Islamadora...hoping the wind stays down on the bay side.
Going up the canal to Largo Sound
We were surprised to see they use cranes to get their boats out of the salt water
Nice house on the canal
Canal behind us
Our boat after back in docking for the first time.
Another view of the boat all tied up
Lots of kayakers in the mangrove swamp.
We also took the dinghy out and explored them.
We were limited in where we could go because most of the areas didn't allow motorized watercraft.
Marina we are at tonight
Bridge we discovered. We went snorkeling in this location
